BBA Accounting Concentration

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting at the H-E-B School of Business and Administration prepares students for professions in all functional areas of accounting.

 

Why Accounting?

Accounting is the language by which businesses report to stakeholders the results of their operations, comprehensive income, financial position and changes in cash and equities. Accountants do this by analyzing, recording, presenting and interpreting the results of transactions and events.

Students who choose the BBA program’s accounting concentration can expect a comprehensive and challenging program. Here, they can learn from and compete with the best and build strength of character that matters in the classroom, workplace and throughout life.

Accounting Curriculum

This concentration plan is based on core competencies identified by the and is designed to prepare you to enter the field of professional accounting. The BBA in Accounting is a 120-hour program and is intended to develop the decision making and skills needed to enter the accounting profession.

The courses listed below are a sample of those found within the accounting concentration.

  • ACCT 3311: Intermediate ACCT I

  • ACCT 3312: Intermediate ACCT II

  • ACCT 3315: Federal Income Tax I

  • ACCT 3317: Accounting Systems

  • ACCT 4314: Auditing

 

Sitting for the CPA Exam

To qualify to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination, the requires the following educational qualifications:

  • Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree from a Board-recognized United States college or university. Our program is part of this recognized degrees.
  • Complete 120 semester hours or quarter-hour equivalents of college credit that includes:
    • 24 semester hours or quarter-hour equivalents of upper-level accounting courses; and
    • 21 semester hours or quarter-hour equivalents of upper-level related business courses; and
    • an approved 3-hour course in ethics
ºÚÁÏÉçÇø undergraduate accounting students with at least a B average in their accounting courses automatically have a reserved spot in the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) MSA program. Both the BBA and MSA are designed to be completed in five years, providing accounting students not only with the requirements to sit for the CPA exam, but also with a specialization in topics like data analytics or taxation.
