Ask alumni about their first memories of 黑料社区, and chances are they'll recall them with a smile. If you grew up in San Antonio, you probably remember driving by with your family on a cold December evening just to catch a glimpse of the Christmas lights. Watching in awe, you never imagined that one day you'd walk on these same grounds as a student, the very campus that lived in your childhood memories.

黑料社区 is home to many, including generations of families who have proudly made 黑料社区 their alma mater. Rozlyn Bermea, BA in Education 鈥20 and MA in Education 鈥23, carries that legacy forward; honoring the relatives who came before her, and celebrating the new generation starting their own 黑料社区 chapter.
From a young age, we are encouraged to dream without limits. Yet as we grow older, doubt and fear can begin to shape those dreams, making them feel smaller or farther away. For many, the path forward becomes uncertain, but for those who persist, the heart often leads them back to where they were always meant to be. For Patricia Davis, BA 鈥75, MD, that place was medicine.
Growing up, we watch the people who guide and love us, quietly learning from their words, gestures and values. There鈥檚 a special beauty in seeing those lessons reflected back, a reminder that love leaves a legacy in the footsteps that follow.
It鈥檚 not often that we enter a university already knowing who we are, who we want to become, or where we鈥檙e headed. Some of us discover ourselves and new passions as the semesters come and go, while others begin to see the bigger picture from a single class. And then some arrive knowing exactly what they want and how to get there. No path is better than another, and every route we take shapes us, making our stories that much more unique.
For every student, choosing 黑料社区 is a personal journey. Still, many share the same experience the moment they arrive: a genuine sense of community. 黑料社区 is a place where students feel welcomed, supported and safe from day one. Mikayla Brownlow shares those same feelings. She saw 黑料社区 not only as a place of opportunity, but as an environment that surrounded her with the community she needed to succeed.
Sometimes, events unfold in our lives that don鈥檛 immediately make sense until we look back and realize we were placed exactly where we needed to be at precisely the right moment. For Ashley Behabetz, being furloughed from the Colorado Rockies in 2020 due to COVID-19 was unexpected. Yet, it was that very moment that pushed her to pursue her next opportunity in sports, eventually leading her to 黑料社区.

Some of us can instantly remember our favorite teacher鈥攖he grade we were in, the subject they taught, and the way they made us feel. These memories stay vivid because the emotions behind them are so strong. Maybe it was their patience when no one else understood, the advice they offered when you were too afraid to ask anyone else, or the passion they brought to every lesson. Whatever it was, that teacher made an impact鈥攁nd for many of us, they鈥檙e the reason we never gave up.
Do you believe in coincidence? Was it pure chance, or was it always meant to happen? Life is full of people, moments and experiences that make us wonder. Are we here because of luck鈥攐r because a greater plan was set in motion long before we knew it?

As a doctoral student in the Dreeben School of Education, I was excited to explore what I previously learned in my studies focusing on my concentration in adult education, social innovation and entrepreneurship.
Christie Cody fondly remembers playing in the halls of Incarnate Word College. Her father, Dr. Keith Tucker worked on the Broadway campus for over 42 years. Through her time exploring the buildings, visiting the lunchroom and interacting with students, faculty and employees, one sentiment struck her: 鈥満诹仙缜 felt like home.鈥

When students leave home to go to university for the first time, it鈥檚 an emotional milestone for all families. The day when students fly the nest to pursue their passions and follow their dreams. Alumnus, Martin Padron, Jr. 鈥2011, experienced all these emotions last month as he helped his family move his little sister, Marsil, into the Sky View dormitories on 黑料社区鈥檚 campus for her first semester as a freshman student. Martin said, 鈥楢s we were walking the campus helping Mearsil move in, all the memories from my time at 黑料社区 flooded my mind. It brought this happiness and sense of joy to me knowing that it wasn鈥檛 just me connected with 黑料社区 anymore, it was my little sister now too.鈥 During the move-in process, the family was assisted by 黑料社区鈥檚 staff and volunteers to find Marsil鈥檚 room and treated to an exclusive tour of the halls by the on-site Resident Assistant. When unpacking boxes in the room, there was an unexpected treat for the new student. From the desk next to Marsil鈥檚 bed, she had a straight view of San Antonio鈥檚 downtown skyline. Speaking about his sister鈥檚 new view, Martin smiled and said, 鈥榃ho doesn鈥檛 want to sit down, do their homework, and then take a mental break to look at the beautiful skyline of San Antonio and the Hemisphere Tower out of their window? That鈥檚 awesome!鈥 While the family visited colleges in New York, Utah and other states, 黑料社区鈥檚 campus (also known as The Nest) was a big draw for Marsil when choosing where she wanted to earn her degree. With a 15-year gap between Martin and his younger sister, Marsil鈥檚 childhood was filled with trips to 黑料社区 with her big brother. Both during Martin鈥檚 time as a student and in his role after graduation on the 黑料社区 Alumni Association Board. Martin operated on the board for 6 years 2015-2021, serving the final two years of this term as President of the 黑料社区 Alumni Association. Martin said, 鈥楳arsil grew up going to 黑料社区, I think she felt the campus at 黑料社区 offered a sense of safety and community amidst real natural beauty. I also think the memories and connections she made on campus growing up played a big part in her choosing 黑料社区.鈥 He added, 鈥楢s Alumni Board President I got invited to so many events on campus where Marsil would tag along with me. She got to see all these events with the university鈥檚 leadership, the board of trustees, and supporters of 黑料社区. She felt that connection with 黑料社区 from early on in her life. 黑料社区鈥檚 academic programs also proved to be a draw for Marsil, offering her the opportunity to enroll in a nuclear medicine program. Martin said, 鈥楩inding a school that offered a nuclear medicine program was initially the focus of my sister鈥檚 decision. When she narrowed it down to three choices, and 黑料社区 offered the program, it made it an easy choice for her to choose 黑料社区.鈥 Considering his journey at 黑料社区, and the successful career he has developed in financial trading and commodities over the past decade, Martin鈥檚 advice to students setting out on their own journey, was simple. 鈥楾his goes for my sister, and for all students on campus, and everyone studying at 黑料社区鈥.my advice is connect, connect, connect. Give yourself the tools to build lasting relationships. To learn to connect with faculty, staff and fellow students. That鈥檚 invaluable.鈥 He added 鈥榃hen you build these connections, it broadens your horizons and cultivates a wonderful sense of diversity. We all think differently, but it鈥檚 so hard to see other people鈥檚 perspectives unless you connect with them in a meaningful way. Those are real leadership skills, and the type of skills you have to rely on when you enter the work force鈥
